Parting Gift

By Gary Barton

Here lies the end of a chapter

Of a book that’s hard to let go

With every word becoming to life

Reveals meanings not easily shown

It was never meant to be farewell

Or a point of no return

Rather, it’s a gift of memories

Of pages we’ve made and learned

The hardest part is the next chapter

Who knows what will happen next

Maybe, it’s not our full intent

To control what’s worse or best

So this parting gift I leave with you

As a new chapter begins

Is not to say “goodbye”

But “I hope to see you again”
